BOYS BASKETBALL

South River 78, Timothy Christian 71: Derrick Whitaker led South River (6-5) with 30 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Joseph Nigro finished with 13 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. For Timothy Christian (10-3), Pierce Kokosinski scored 26 points and Robert Saydee added 21 points. 

WRESTLING: AREA BOX SCORES FOR FRIDAY, JAN. 19

Carteret 86, North Brunswick 49: Isaiah Daniels-Porter recorded a double-double for Carteret (12-3) with 28 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and one steal. Malik Austin contributed 24 points, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Jahlil Nix added 19 points, two rebounds, two assists and one block. Delano Whitfield finished with 15 points for North Brunswick (3-7). Maneet Batra scored 13 points. 

Perth Amboy Tech 58, South Amboy 46: Yire Belliard scored 18 points to pace Perth Amboy Tech (8-4). Carlos Morla finished with 16 points. Kelvin Maria added 13 points. For South Amboy (1-13), Kyle Gasiewski led with 14 points. Aiden Pelkey scored 11 points. 

Bound Brook 50, Middlesex 42: Jayden Hill led Bound Brook (8-5) with 14 points, five rebounds and one steal. Jason Cuba recorded 12 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Kyle Frauenheim finished with 11 points, five rebounds and two assists. Anthony Mason scored 13 points for Middlesex (8-4). 

Piscataway Tech 64, Roselle 55: Branden Barnes recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds for Piscataway Tech (9-3). Sergio Rodriguez scored 20 points, including 16 free throws. Daniel Peacock and Chris Zambonino each scored 11 points. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Union 35, New Providence 33: Kaitlyn Cumiskey led New Providence (3-11) with 12 points, three rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block. Alexa Boyle finished with seven points, five rebounds and one steal. Alyssa Nook added five points, seven rebounds and five blocks. Olivia Faucher recorded five points, four rebounds and five assists. 

Middlesex 70, Willingboro 40: Haley Logue finished with a career-high 15 points, five rebounds and four assists as Middlesex remained undefeated at 12-0. Carly Santucci scored 12 points and Brianna Montajes added 11 points. Jessica Forte scored 10 points. 

Manalapan 58, New Brunswick 31: Annabel Espinal finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and one assist for New Brunswick (4-7). Aniyah Thomas chipped in 10 rebounds, four points, four assists and two steals. Brehanna Chang recorded seven points, five rebounds and one steal.

Somerset Tech 44, East Brunswick Tech 41: Anna Ramos recorded a double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks, two assists and one steal for Somerset Tech (5-4). Rebeka Quagliato finished with nine points, three steals and two assists. For East Brunswick (2-9), Lindsey Kuhlthau scored 11 points and Grace D'Amato added 10 points. 

Dunellen 40, Timothy Christian 26: Chloe Cassidy led Dunellen (5-6) with 12 points and four rebounds. Alison McGrath recorded 10 points, six steals and two rebounds. For Timothy Christian (8-5), Sierra Thomas scored 16 points. 

Watchung Hills 51, Morris Knolls 44: Alexa Santo finished with 15 points and two rebounds to lead Watchung Hills (10-1). Mahogany Jenkins recorded 10 points, nine rebounds, one assist and one steal. Julia Cunningham added 10 rebounds, nine points, five assists, one block and one steal. 

ICE HOCKEY

South Brunswick 5, Steinert 3: Michael Castiello led South Brunswick (6-5) with one goal and two assists. Brody Burmester, Thomas Bansbach, Ronit Thummaluru and Vincent Zhang also scored. Cole Armstrong and Harin Ponna each had one assist. Benjamin Reichbart made 18 saves. 

Hillsborough 5, Bernards 1: Jude Kurtas scored four goals to lead Hillsborough (6-9-3). Lleyton Soares finished with one goal and three assists. Jason Wolff recorded three assists. Jack Spitzer, Matt Palmer and Sean Ely each had one assist. Alex Delesky made 11 saves. For Bernards (4-11-1), Eddie Berman scored on an assist from Ryan McGriskin. Liam Kelly made 18 saves. 

GIRLS ICE HOCKEY

Pingry 6, Summit 3: Julia Spinelli recorded a hat trick to lead Pingry (7-5). Rylie Drozjock finished with one goal and four assists. Lizzie Gilfillan added one goal and two assists. Emma Lombardo had one goal and one assist. Emma Barrison made 17 saves.
