CORYDON, IN (WAVE) - Kids in Harrison County got a taste of Norwegian music and culture this week.

Norway's Unni Boksasp Ensemble performed a concert for the public at the Corydon Central High School Auditorium on Friday. The four musicians were here as part of the Arts Midwest World Fest.

"They wanted to play music from the whole world to small places in the Midwest. And it's so really great to be here and play for all the students," Norweigan musician Unni Boksasp said.

The group said they put a contemporary twist on traditional Norwegian folk music.

The Arts Midwest World Fest presents international music in the nine regions it serves. The project aims to connect small and mid-sized Midwestern communities to world cultures.

"I want to hear more of their music, 'cause it made me feel like I want to become a musician," 10-year-old Chloe Engleman said.

Typically, Corydon  would not have the financial resources to host events of the kind The Unni Boksasp Ensemble will offer, Main Street Corydon Executive Director Angel Frizzell said in a statement.

Arts Midwest, one of six U.S. Regional Arts Organizations, partners with program sponsors like The National Endowment for the Arts, The Hearst Foundations, 3M, and the Nordic Culture Fund to cover a substantial portion of the program cost so that communities throughout the Midwest can enjoy this rich arts experience.

Corydon was one of only nine Midwestern cities selected to host the 2017–2019 Arts Midwest World Fest, and was the community chosen in Indiana.

"It's a real honor to be part of this program," Angel Frizzell said.

Another concert is scheduled for Saturday evening at Corydon Central. The event is free to the public.

The Unni Boksasp Ensemble will also make tour stops in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.
