APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s basketball team ends its four-game road trip by heading to Lantz Arena to face off with Eastern Illinois, 1:00pm, Saturday, January 19th.

The Governors (7-9, 2-3 OVC) finish up the most daunting road stretch of the season looking for their first road win of the season.

That elusive road win almost came on Thursday against SIU Edwardsville, until the Govs were downed by a shot with four seconds remaining.

The Govs battled back from double-digit deficits multiple times, but another slow start combined with inefficient rebounding was the difference.

All was not lost for the Govs, though. Keisha Gregory, who had 20 points in the game, recorded six steals, a new career-high, two off the single-game program record. Gregory has now scored in double figures for seven straight games and has made her last 17 free throws.

About the Eastern Illinois Panthers

The Panthers (8-8, 2-3 OVC) are 7-1 at home on the year, defeating Murray State at home, 75-67, in their most recent game. The Panthers shoot the ball decently, with marks of 43 percent from the field and 34 percent from beyond the arc, but somewhat struggle from the line, only shooting 66 percent. The Panthers also are very adept at forcing turnovers, as they are third in the Ohio Valley Conference in turnover margins and turnovers forced.

The Panthers offense is led by sophomore guard Karle Pace. Pace, who played her high school basketball at Rossview in Clarksville, averages slightly over 15 points per game on an efficient 46.7 shooting percentage. Grace Lennox, a preseason All-OVC pick, is the team’s third leading scorer (8.9 ppg) and also has double the amount of assists of any other EIU player. EIU has three players in the top 15 in the OVC in three-point field goal percentage, including Pace (ninth, 37.1 percent) and sharpshooter Carmen Tellez (second, 49.2 percent).

The Govs have won six of the last eight games against the Panthers, including four of the last five at Lantz Arena. In the most recent outing in February of last season, Gregory scored her career-high of 27 points in the same building the Govs will walk into tomorrow.
