Odisha govt begins process to recruit 606 college teachers

The higher education department has started process for recruitment of 606 college teachers in 52 government degree colleges across the state. Teachers will be appointed in 20 subjects.

BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department has started process for recruitment of 606 college teachers in 52 government degree colleges across the state. Teachers will be appointed in 20 subjects.
In an official letter, higher education department deputy secretary Snigdha Champatiray urged the secretary of Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) to take immediate action in the matter for early recruitment of suitable candidates for the 606 college branch lecturers.

The department has come up with a detailed list of vacant positions in particular subjects. Anthropology subject has six vacant posts, botany (48), chemistry (85), commerce (30), economics (40), education (20), English (44), environmental science (5), geography (10), geology (8), history (30), logic and philosophy (10), mathematics (63), Odia (25), physics (75), political science (10), psychology (14), sociology (12), life science (3) and zoology (68).
Out of the total 606 vacant posts, government has reserved 136 posts for Scheduled Tribe, 98 for Scheduled Caste, 66 for socially and economically backward class (SEBC), 24 for persons with disabilities (PWD), six for sportspersons and 18 posts for ex-servicemen category.
A candidate aged between 21 and 33 should possess a master degree in the concerned subject from a recognized university with at least 55 per cent of marks (50 per cent for SC and ST candidates) or its equivalent grade and a consistently good academic record. National Eligibility Test (NET) shall remain the compulsory requirement for appointment as lecturer for the candidates with PG degree, but the candidates having PhD degree on the concerned subject will be exempted from NET, said the official letter.
OPSC secretary Satyabrat Ray said the commission will soon start the recruitment process after getting requisition from the state government. "We will invite applications from candidates and select them by holding tests. After our process is over, we will submit subject wise merit list to the higher education department for necessary action," he added.
