Grand Forks Foundation awards grant for teacher development

Funds from the Bjertness Staff Development Endowment used to help educators improve, development teaching skills

The Grand Forks Foundation for Education Inc. is awarding $1,300 this year for a staff development project in Grand Forks public schools.

The funds are being awarded to Elisa Diederich and the School-Wide Enrichment program for Empowering Equity in Gifted Education Virtual Conference.

The grant comes from the Bjertness Staff Development Endowment, established in 2004 in honor and memory of Echo Bjertness and Ben Bjertness. The longtime educators established the endowment, as part of their estate, to help teachers in Grand Forks public schools continue to grow as educators.

The income from the endowment will be used to finance one or more annual grants to educators for the purpose of developing or improving their teaching skills, according to Emilia Hodgson, the Foundation’s executive director.
