Riverland Community College to receive over $170,000 in workforce development grants from DEED

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) recently awarded 13 workforce development grants totaling nearly $2.2 million under the Minnesota Jobs Skills Partnership (MJSP) to assist businesses and educational institutions in training workers to keep high-quality jobs in the state. These grants were awarded by the MJSP board October 25th.

Among the grant recipients announced in October were Riverland Community College and Bio-Plastic Solutions, who will receive $170,554 to partner and provide 43 employees training designed to adapt them to new product lines. Employees who complete the training can earn certificates in OSHA 110, American Heart Association CPR and MSSC Production Technician Certification.

According to a press release from DEED, the investments through the MJSP program build off the recent launch of Minnesota’s “Build What Matters ” campaign, pitching Minnesota as the problem-solving capital of the United States.  Officials with DEED stated that Minnesota has long been a state that builds businesses that make global transformations in a variety of sectors.

The next application deadline is January 24th and grants will be awarded at the March 7th MJSP meeting.
