Weber County forums featuring local candidates kick off starting Tuesday

OGDEN — Election season is getting into high gear and several debates — sponsored by the Weber County League of Women Voters and the Utah Debate Commission — are in the works to give voters a chance to size up the hopefuls.
The debates kick off on Tuesday. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:
School board: The league is holding a forum featuring the varied candidates for the Ogden and Weber school boards at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Pleasant Valley Branch library, 5568 S. Adams Ave. in Washington Terrace.
In the Ogden School District, incumbent Douglas Barker and challenger Stacy Bernal are vying for the District 2 seat. Incumbent Amber Allred and Jeremy Shinoda are running for the District 4 seat.
In the Weber School District, incumbent Janis Christensen and Heidi Gross are vying for the Precinct 6 seat.
The school board posts are nonpartisan.
Weber County Commission: The two seats up for grabs on the Weber County Commission are contested and a forum featuring the hopefuls is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Main Library in Ogden at 2464 Jefferson Ave. The debate is also hosted by the league.
Gage Froerer, the Republican incumbent in Seat A, is seeking his second term in the post, challenged by Democrat John Thompson.
Republican Sharon Bolos, the former West Haven mayor, and Libertarian Brian Rowley are vying for the Seat B post. Scott Jensen, a GOPer and the incumbent in Seat B, isn’t running again.
Utah Senate, House: The league is hosting a forum featuring the varied hopefuls for the Utah Senate and Utah House posts serving Weber County on Thursday at the Pleasant Valley Branch library in Washington Terrace starting at 6 p.m. Candidates for the District 5 Utah Senate post and District 8, 9 and 10 Utah House seats have been invited.
Ann Millner, a Republican from Ogden, is seeking her third term in the Utah Senate, challenged by Democrat Michael Blodgett, also of Ogden. The post is District 5, renumbered from District 18 due to redistricting.
Republican Jason Kyle of Huntsville and Democrat Monica Hall of Ogden are facing off in the District 8 Utah House race. The seat — now held by GOPer Steve Waldrip, who’s not running for reelection — covers part of Ogden’s East Bench, the Ogden Valley and a small part of Morgan County.
GOPer Cal Musselman of West Haven is seeking his third term in the District 9 post, challenged by Democrat Neil Hansen of Ogden, a former Utah House member, and Libertarian Jacob Johnson of West Haven.
District 9 stretches from West Haven to east-central Ogden.
Democrat Rosemary Lesser, the District 10 incumbent, faces a challenge from Jill Koford, a Republican. Both are from Ogden. District 10 covers southern Ogden, part of South Ogden, northern Riverdale and northern Washington Terrace.
U.S. House: The Utah Debate Commission is hosting a meeting between the 3rd District U.S. House hopefuls, incumbent John Curtis, a GOPer, and Democrat Glenn Wright next Thursday starting at 6 p.m. on the Brigham Young University campus in Provo.
The 1st District U.S. House hopefuls, Republican incumbent Blake Moore and Democratic challenger Rick Jones, meet in a debate at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 on the Weber State campus in Ogden. The 1st District encompasses Northern Utah, including Weber County and the northern portion of Davis County.
The 4th District U.S. House candidates, GOP incumbent Burgess Owens, Democrat Darlene McDonald and January Walker of the United Utah Party, meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 12 on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City.
The 2nd District U.S. House candidates, GOP incumbent Chris Stewart, Democrat Nick Mitchell and Cassie Easley of the Constitution Party, meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 14 on the campus of Southern Utah University in Cedar City.
U.S. Senate: The Utah Debate Commission is hosting a debate between the two main U.S. Senate hopefuls, GOP incumbent Mike Lee and independent challenger Evan McMullin, at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at Utah Valley University in Orem.
Mail-in ballots will be sent out starting around Oct. 18 and Election Day is Nov. 8.
