Tinley Park’s Richardson named American Red Cross Disaster Relief Hero
The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago recently announced its 2022 class of heroes and Ruthann Richardson, a registered nurse from Tinley Park, was named a Disaster Relief Hero.
Richardson has gone above and beyond in her efforts to build and maintain better communities while making a lasting impact on others in the process, according to the agency. After a 40-year career as a nurse, Richardson gave almost 2,000 hours of her time last year as a nurse volunteer to the Red Cross.
She responded to many disasters in Illinois and throughout the country, including being deployed to Louisiana after Hurricane Ida.
“My life is a gift and what I bring to others can be a gift, too,” she said. “If I can provide a positive experience to someone’s life, particularly if they’ve been through one of the worst experiences, then I have done something right.”
She was honored at a Heroes Breakfast at the Hilton Chicago in May, and more recently by the Tinley Park Village Board.
