The University of South Florida has announced four finalists in its national search for a provost and executive vice president of academic affairs.

The names were drawn from a list of eight candidates interviewed by a search committee to replace longtime provost Ralph Wilcox, who announced last year he was stepping down from the post. The finalists, announced Thursday, are:

  • Pranesh B. Aswath, senior vice provost for academic planning and policy at University of Texas at Arlington.
  • Eric M. Eisenberg, dean of USF’s College of Arts and Sciences, who is serving as the university’s interim provost.
  • Erin McNamara Horvat, senior vice provost for faculty advancement and undergraduate affairs at Drexel University.
  • Giovanni Piedimonte, vice president of research and institutional official at Tulane University, who was named a finalist in Florida State University’s last presidential search last year.

The provost serves as the university’s top academic officer. Each candidate will visit USF’s three campuses and participate in town halls open to the public on Oct. 12, 13, 17 and 18. More details on the schedule are available at usf.edu/provost/provost-search/town-halls.aspx.

Following the town halls, attendees can provide feedback online before USF president Rhea Law makes a selection.
