College softball: Four Jackrabbits land on Academic All-Summit League team

BROOKINGS — A total of 12 student-athletes were named to the 2023 Summit League Softball All-Academic League Team the conference announced Wednesday. South Dakota State had a league-high four selections in Brooke Dumont, Mia Jarecki, Tori Kniesche and Emma Osmundson.

The student-athletes were chosen for the honor based on their academic and athletic performances this past season. Kniesche and Osmundson were previously named to the Academic All-League Team in 2022, while Dumont and Jarecki are first-time selections. All four Jackrabbits were previously picked to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team in May.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League Team, a student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.30, completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50% of their team’s competitions, except pitcher who must have participated in 20% of their team’s total contests. The Academic All-League Team was voted on by a panel of sports information directors and faculty athletic representatives from the league’s member institutions. The team is made up of initially by ten student-athletes that receive the most votes with all ties standing.

  • Brooke Dumont, sophomore — Physical/Teacher Education: 3.98
  • Mia Jarecki, sophomore — Exercise Science: 3.84
  • Tori Kniesche, junior — Human Development and Family Sciences: 3.90
  • Emma Osmundson, sophomore — Human Biology/Pre Med: 3.92
