Chennai: Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Mahesh Anbil Poyyamozhi said that the government is planning to conduct classes on Saturdays to compensate for the days that were declared holidays considering the prevailing heat conditions in the state.

“Due to the delay in opening of schools, there will be a shortfall of 4 hours per subject. Classes are scheduled to be held on Saturdays to cover summer vacations and to speed up the completion of syllabus portions so that the students do not have any academic load and teachers will also not be overloaded.”

The Tamil Nadu government had earlier postponed the reopening of schools after the summer holidays for the third time in view of the scorching heat prevailing in the state. Accordingly, the schools reopened on June 2 for classes VI to XII while Classes I to V will resume on June 14.

The schools in Tamil Nadu were originally slotted to reopen on June 1 and later postponed until June 7.
