Alabama basketball ranks No. 3 in final AP Poll of the season

It seemed as if the wheels were falling off for the Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team as they dropped four of their final six games going into the NCAA Tournament. However, an early quarterfinal exit from the SEC Tournament may have been a blessing in disguise for the Crimson Tide as they seemed well rested heading into March Madness as they went on a historic run to qualify for the program's first-ever Final Four.

The Tide beat both the College of Charleston and Grand Canyon University by double digits to set up a date with the No. 1 seed North Carolina Tar Heels in the Sweet 16. After knocking off North Carolina and then Clemson Tigers in the Elite Eight, the Tide's magical run was cut short by the eventual national champion UConn Huskies who just went back-to-back.

UConn and Purdue closed at No. 1 and 2 in the country while Alabama jumped 16 spots to finish at No. 3 in the final AP Poll of 2024. The Auburn Tigers dropped 11 spots to No. 18 after their shocking first-round upset to Yale University of the Ivy League.
