1 detained for questioning after report of gun on Broward school campus

At different Broward school, fight between students leads to pepper spray incident

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to a high school Friday morning after receiving a report that a student brought a gun on campus.

A spokesperson for the agency confirmed to Local 10 News that the call for service was received just after 11 a.m., and deputies and detectives with BSO’s Threat Management Unit searched the campus of Blanche Ely High School, located at 1201 NW Sixth Ave. in Pompano Beach.

Authorities confirmed that no weapon has been found on campus, and the lockdown at the school has been lifted.

One person has been detained for questioning, but no arrests have been made, BSO confirmed.

Also on Friday, a fight at Boyd Anderson High School led to pepper spray being dispersed.

Authorities said students were hit by the spray, but no serious injuries were reported.

BSO is investigating the cause of the fight and resulting events.

No other details were immediately released.
