Spain, Portugal, and Morocco governments are considering easing the visa procedures between the three nations in an attempt to facilitate the movement of fans from one country to another during the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
This move aligns with the requirements of FIFA and its main aim is to ensure that all fans have a smooth travel experience to the host countries during this tournament that gathers large numbers of football enthusiasts, Schengen.News reports.
As El Peridico de Ceuta explains, a source has said that a joint committee is working to create a mechanism that would reduce the administrative procedures when obtaining a visa and facilitate the entry of fans to host cities.
The same source further noted that the EU is considering amending the Schengen visa rules and implementing some special measures for Moroccan fans attending the event.
While there are many options available, according to the source, among the main ones that are being considered is the adoption of a “fan card” system. A similar mechanism was used in the 2018 World Cup held in Russia and the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar and it is believed that this is the best option in this case, too.
However, nothing has been decided yet. The governments of Spain, Portugal, and Morocco are expected to share more details on the matter in the upcoming months, provided that an agreement is reached.
Spanish & Portuguese Nationals Can Enter Morocco Visa-Free, While Moroccans Must Obtain a Visa for EU
Passport holders of Spain and Portugal are permitted visa-free entry to Morocco, provided that their stay does not exceed 90 days.
The case is not the same for Moroccan passport holders. Nationals of Morocco need to undergo the Schengen visa procedures and obtain the document in order to be permitted entry into the bloc.
Since the 2030 FIFA World Cup will be held in three countries located on two different continents, it is important that Moroccan fans do not face restrictions.
Reportedly, Spain and Portugal are strong advocates for the easing of the visa rules for Moroccan fans at the 2025 World Cup.
As explained, Spain and Portugal believe that the simplification of the visa rules or the granting of temporary visa-free entry to Moroccans would promote tourist flows and increase fan attendance.
However, the authorities of the two countries have not made any statement on the matter and is yet to be seen what will be decided.
