TRIBUTE has been paid to Keighley's "world-class" manufacturing and engineering sector.
Robbie Moore, the town's MP, was speaking as he met with business bosses at a gathering of the Keighley College Employers Board.
Representatives from some of Keighley's leading manufacturing, engineering and technology-based firms attended.
They discussed challenges faced in recruiting skilled workers, and how stronger partnerships between businesses and vocational training providers could help bridge the skills gap.
"Keighley’s world-class manufacturing and engineering industries helped build our town – providing highly-skilled jobs, driving innovation and strengthening our local economy," said Mr Moore.
"But like many industries, they face challenges in recruiting skilled workers. That is why strengthening links between local businesses and vocational training colleges is so important, ensuring that young people have access to high-quality training and clear pathways into careers.
"One of my priorities is to drive forward the vocational-based skills agenda and to encourage apprenticeships, so that businesses can benefit from locally-based talent and equip our next generation with the practical skills and knowledge needed to thrive in modern industry."
Mr Moore recognised the role played by Keighley College in helping young people to acquire skills, and supporting long-term economic growth.
He added: "I'd like to express a big 'thank you' to the Keighley College Employer Board and everyone who took part in this important discussion."
