MURRAY, Ky. — Mitchell native Ryan Miller is set to be hired as head men’s basketball coach at Murray State University, according to multiple reports, including from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Miller, 49, is a longtime assistant coach, most recently at Creighton University in Omaha, and has prior stops at TCU, UNLV and Auburn, among others. He played collegiately at Northern State and is the brother of former NBA veteran Mike Miller.

Murray State is an NCAA Division I mid-major power from western Kentucky but was 16-17 overall and 9-11 in the Missouri Valley Conference this season, leading to the dismissal of Steve Prohm from the head coaching position on March 8.

Miller’s hire has not been made official by the Murray State athletic department as of noon Thursday. Creighton was playing in the Big East Tournament on Thursday night against DePaul.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Mitchell Republic." Often, the "Mitchell Republic" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
