The Grade 4 Student Government at E.C. Myer Elementary School in Kingston has developed and implemented a community service project creating Birthday Boxes for local families in need.

The comprehensive packages include cake mix, frosting, candles, handmade cards, and all necessary baking supplies, with alternative microwave mug cake options designed for households without conventional ovens.

The students conceptualized, planned, and assembled these packages independently, allocating their student government fundraising proceeds toward the initiative. The completed Birthday Boxes were presented to People’s Place Director Christine Hein, who will oversee distribution to community members who might otherwise be unable to celebrate birthdays with traditional festivities.

This project demonstrates the students’ understanding of community needs and their commitment to developing practical solutions that make a meaningful difference for local families.
