Dr. Mohamad Schuman, President of the Stone County School District Board of Trustees, was selected by MSBA President Dr. Delores McNair as a presidential appointee to the Board of Directors of the Mississippi School Boards Association (MSBA) for the 2024-2025 school year. The MSBA Board of Directors is composed of 20 members, including four presidential appointees. These appointees serve a one-year term and may be reappointed. Dr. Schuman was sworn in and participated in his first MSBA Board meeting on February 24, 2025.
“We are honored to have Dr. Mohamad Schuman join the MSBA Board of Directors,” said Dr. Denotris R. Jackson, MSBA Executive Director. “His leadership experience will make him an asset to the association. We look forward to his contributions in shaping the vision and strategy of the MSBA.”
Dr. Schuman, a retired educator, previously served as the Director of Bands for the Stone County School District and has extensive experience leading music programs at various educational institutions. With over three decades in education, including leadership roles at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), he has demonstrated a deep commitment to student success and educational excellence. His career highlights include directing bands at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference and managing an $800,000 scholarship program at USM.
Dr. Schuman holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in music education from the University of Mississippi and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of South Carolina. He is also a board member of the American Bandmasters Association and a former high school representative for the National Band Association.
