Brighton's Noah Shand makes all-state at swim finals

Brighton senior Noah Shand was the only Livingston County all-stater in the state swimming and diving championships Saturday.
Shand finished seventh in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 42.98 seconds in the Division 1 finals at Holland Aquatic Center. The top eight finishers made all-state.
He was also the only county swimmer to make it to the final day in four events.
Shand was ninth in the 100 breaststroke in 58.58 seconds after placing 10th in prelims and was on two relays that made the consolation finals.
Shand, Gries Kane, Will Dittmer and Spencer Sanders took 10th in the 200 medley relay in 1:38.35. Shand, Sanders, Kane and Jackson Bennett were 10th in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:13.11. In both cases, the Bulldogs moved up two places from their finish Friday in prelims.

Hartland junior Sebastian Ritsema took 15th in the 100 freestyle in 47.94.
Bennett took 16th in the 200 freestyle in 1:46.75 after swimming 1:45.01 in prelims.
In the 200 individual medley, Sanders came within three places of reaching the consolation finals, placing 19th in 2:00.97. Brighton freshman Trey Hickman was 42nd in 2:06.95.
Sanders was 21st in the 500 freestyle (4:53.27), Kane took 22nd (55.43) in 100 backstroke, Ritsema 22nd (22.32) in the 50 freestyle and Dittmer placed 32nd (1:02.85) in breaststroke.
Hartland's 200 freestyle relay team of Ritsema, Austin Hawkins, Zach Tennis and Grant Henson tied for 30th in 1:32.65.
Brighton finished 16th with 50 points and Hartland tied for 30th with two. Saline won with 291.5 points, Ann Arbor Pioneer was second with 263 and Northville was third with 224.
In Division 3 at Eastern Michigan University, Pinckney junior Isaac Reedy was 31st in 100 butterfly in 59.85.
With no girls basketball teams remaining in the state quarterfinals, the swim finals concluded the winter sports season in Livingston County.
