PROVIDENCE, R.I. (MyKeeneNow) Five Keene State College student-athletes were honored by the Little East Conference for their achievements accomplished for the week of 3/10-3/16.

Baseball 

Junior outfielder Tommy Ahlers (Salem, N.H.) was named the LEC Player of the Week from his performance on the Owls’ six games on the week. Ahlers went 15-28 with a pair of each doubles and triples, nine runs batted in, six runs scored, and three stolen bases on three attempts. Ahlers has recorded a hit in nine of 11 games on the season for the Owls, including being on an eight-game hit streak as his batting average has soared to .435. His best game of the week came in the Owls’ win over Colby-Sawyer College as he went 3-4 with a double and a triple, to go with four RBIs and a pair of runs scored. 

Freshman infielder Anthony DiGiacomo (Marstons Mills, Mass.) was named the LEC Rookie of the Week from his performance over the Owls six games over the week, as he made his first four career collegiate starts. DiGiacomo went 7-21 on the week with a pair of doubles, a home run, along with three runs scored and batted in. DiGiacomo’s best game of the week came in the Owls’ win over RPI as he went 3-5 at the plate with one RBI and run scored. 

Ahlers, DiGiacomo, and the Owls return to action on Thursday, March 20, as the Owls travel to take on Roger Williams University at 3 p.m.

Men’s Lacrosse 

Senior attack Rex Maccarini (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was named the LEC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season and second week in a row after his performance of 12 points in the Owls’ two games on the week in which KSC went 1-1.  

Against undefeated Bates College, Maccarini tallied a goal and a pair of assists for the Owls along with two ground balls and a caused turnover. In KSC’s 17-14 win over Otterbein, Maccarini recorded nine points, the most in a game in the LEC so far this season as he recorded three goals and six assists, which is also the most in a contest in the LEC this year and the most in nearly three years for the Owls as now assistant coach, Joe Nutting, recorded eight assists against Eastern Connecticut State University back on April 2, 2022. 

Senior goalkeeper Dylan Florian (West Hartford, Conn.) was named the LEC Goalie of the Week from his performance in goal for the Owls over their pair of games. Against undefeated Bates College, Florian made 17 saves in net, and he followed it up with 12 saves in the Owls’ win in Florida over Otterbein University.  

Maccarini, Florian, and the Owls next take the field at home as they open up LEC play against Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday, March 22, at 1 p.m.

Women’s Lacrosse 

Junior goalkeeper Mabelle Bessette (Belchertown, Mass.) was named the LEC Goalie of the Week after her 2-0 week in goal for the Owls as she improved to 5-0 in goal on the season. Against the University of Hartford Bessette made 13 saves in the Owls’ 13-10 win and against UMB Bessette locked the Beacons down after a slow start and made eight saves in the Owls’ 13-7 win. Of her 21 saves on the week, four of them came on free position attempts for a .571 SV % on free position shots on the week. 

Bessette and the Owls look to move to 3-0 in the all-time series against Fitchburg State University for their next matchup, on Wednesday, March 19, at 6 p.m.
