Texas (29-17-3-0) is tied with Grand Rapids for second place in the Central Division at 61 points, three points behind the first-place Milwaukee Admirals. However, the Stars have five games in hand on Milwaukee and four games in hand on Grand Rapids going into play Saturday. They split a two-game home set with the Griffins earlier this week and will wrap up their weekend with a rematch against Chicago on home ice Sunday.
Chicago (27-21-2-0) holds down fourth place in the Central Division, five points behind Grand Rapids and Texas. They are coming off a 6-4 loss at Iowa this past Wednesday in which Ruslan Khazheyev surrendered five goals on 25 shots.
The teams have met just twice this season so far. The Wolves took a pair of one-goal decisions at H-E-B Center on Dec. 13-14. All four of Chicago’s remaining four home games against the Stars will come in their final 18 games.

Chicago Wolves (Carolina Hurricanes)
Three different goaltenders have earned decisions in as many games for the Wolves. Along with Khazheyev’s start, two-time Calder Cup champion Dustin Tokarski defeated Rockford last Sunday with a 27-save performance. A night earlier, Spencer Martin’s 17 saves carried the Wolves past Iowa. Martin’s 21 games lead all Chicago goaltenders, and he has gone 15-5-1 | 2.35 | .909; his goals-against average places eighth in the AHL.
Rookie top prospect Scott Morrow is tied for third among AHL blueliners at 37 points (12-25-37) in 48 games. The 22-year-old turned pro after three seasons at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where he was a Hobey Baker Award nominee last season. Riley Stillman remains missing from the Chicago defense corps while on recall to Carolina, and Ty Smith has missed the past five games as well.

Up front, another top rookie prospect, Bradly Nadeau, has a team-leading 21 goals. He is tied with AHL All-Star Ryan Suzuki and Justin Robidas with a team-best 38 points as well. Nadeau, who does not turn 20 until May 5, went to the Hurricanes in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft.

The Chicago penalty kill ranks 23rd in the AHL at 80.6 percent; it had gone 18-for-18 in a five-game stretch before allowing a pair of Iowa power-play goals in Wednesday’s loss.
Texas Stars (Dallas Stars)
Veteran Magnus Hellberg rebounded this past Wednesday night with 25 saves in a 5-2 win. He had departed last Saturday’s home loss to Colorado after allowing five goals on 11 shots. Remi Poirier has shared the Texas net with Hellberg.
Kyle Capobianco, the Eddie Shore Award winner last season with Manitoba as the AHL’s top blueliner, leads all Texas defenders with 32 points (5-27-32) in 44 games. He is backed by fellow veteran Alex Petrovic, Christian Kyrou, and rookie Luke Krys.
The potent Texas offense is averaging 3.51 goals per game in part because of one of the deepest forward groups in the AHL. Matej Blümel is tied for second in the AHL with 26 goals and has the Texas team scoring lead with 26-21-47; he also is tied for fourth in the AHL in points. Undrafted Justin Hryckowian is second among AHL rookies with 13-29-42. Another undrafted prospect, Arttu Hyry, is in his first season in North America and had a pair of goals last Wednesday night to reach 22 for the season, second-most on the team. In all, seven Texas forwards have double-digit goal totals.

Texas has the AHL’s third-best power play at 22.3 percent.
