GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Today was a big day for medical students at East Carolina University.

Sixty-nine graduating students from Brody School of Medicine learned where they will spend the next phase of their medical training, during National Residency Match Day.

Before they can independently provide direct patient care, U.S medical school gradutes must complete a three-to-seven-year residency program accredited in a recognized medical specialty.

“A lot of time the focus is put on us but truly it is about the people around us,” says Micah Lee, a pediatric resident. “I was so blessed that I have a lot of people who came out to celebrate with me and celebrate my classmates.”

The National Resident Matching Program is the organization that places applicants for postgraduate medical training positions in various residency programs at teaching hospitals across the nation.
