Runners lace up shoes for The Pirate 10 Miler in Greenville
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - On your mark...get set... go! That’s what runners apart of The Pirate 10 Miler heard as they ran around Greenville.
Thousands of people laced up their running shoes Saturday for The Pirate 10 Miler and 4 Miler. The course meant to show off East Carolina University’s campus and the best of Greenville, started at the Dowdy-Ficklen stadium before heading downtown.
Participants of the 10 Miler then ran along the newly renovated S. Tar Greenway system, through the main campus, and finished right back at the stadium.
If runners were looking to get more steps in, there was a double-down challenge that allowed participants to do both the 4 and 10 Miler.
Beck Classey is a student at the School of Dental Medicine and finished first place in the 10 Miler. He says it felt good to win, for many reasons.
“It’s pretty cool to bring home the win for the dental school,” Classey said. “My girlfriend is over there and she’s been supporting me and everything so that’s good to win in front of her.”
WITN’s very own sunrise anchor Gigi Barnett and ENC at Three producer Maya Geving also ran the 10 Miler. This race helped support East Carolina Alumni Association scholarships and engagement programs.
