Gabrielle Rossi, Ph.D.
Gabrielle Rossi, a distinguished professor in Seton Hall University's master of public administration program and founder of the nonprofit organization Girls in Gear, has been honored with the prestigious Youth Empowerment Award by the League of American Bicyclists. The award recognizes leaders who dedicate themselves to mentoring and empowering young people through bicycling, highlighting biking as a crucial lifelong skill and a powerful tool for community building and self-empowerment.
Rossi's nonprofit, Girls in Gear, fosters self-reliance, resilience and leadership among girls, encouraging them to boldly chart their own futures. By using cycling as a powerful metaphor and practical tool, Rossi’s program equips young women with confidence, decision-making skills and a deep sense of independence, preparing them to tackle life's challenges head-on.
“At Girls in Gear, we believe riding a bike symbolizes freedom and capability,” said Rossi. “We’re not just teaching girls to cycle—we’re preparing them to become strong, confident leaders who understand their value and can navigate the world with courage.”
Rossi's impact reaches beyond biking. Her mentorship approach bridges youth development,
public health and gender equity, addressing systemic barriers that limit girls’ participation
in cycling and community leadership. Every successful ride, from a first independent
pedal stroke to confidently leading group rides, embodies the transformational joy
and optimism Girls in Gear seeks to instill in participants.
This distinguished recognition from the League of American Bicyclists spotlights Rossi’s exemplary commitment to empowering the next generation, affirming her critical role in shaping both cycling advocacy and community leadership.
Seton Hall University proudly congratulates Gabrielle Rossi on this remarkable achievement and applauds her dedication to making a lasting positive impact on young lives.
