Perry High School star recruit Koa Peat commits to Univ. of Arizona
GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) — Perry High School five-star basketball recruit Koa Peat announced he’ll be attending the University of Arizona next year.
Peat joined ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday morning to make the exclusive announcement.
Arizona sports fans were likely watching closely with both the Arizona Wildcats and Arizona State Sun Devils on Peat’s consideration list. According to recruiting site 247Sports, the University of Houston was the most likely choice, but Peat chose to stay in his home state.
The 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward is set to graduate in May and has been a highly sought-after recruit for several college programs. He’s listed as the No. 9 recruit in ESPN’s recruiting rankings.
Peat’s accolades have grown over the years to include being a McDonald’s All-American, 2023 USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year and 2024-25 Arizona MaxPreps Basketball Player of the Year.
The Perry Pumas won state titles every year of Peat’s four-year high school career, and Peat helped the US win its eighth-straight FIBA U16 Men’s Americas championship in Mexico in 2023.
