Police: Officer, 3 others injured after crash involving Cincinnati police cruiser
Four people were taken to the hospital after a multi-vehicle crash involving a police cruiser at a busy intersection in Over-the-Rhine Thursday.
It happened around 5:47 p.m. when Cincinnati police said marked police cruiser was responding to an emergency when it struck a 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 62-year-old man at the intersection of Central Parkway and West Liberty Street.
The crash forced the Hyundai into another car, a 2012 Volkswagen GLI, driven by a 33-year-old man. Police said the Volkswagen was stopped in traffic for the police cruiser responding to an emergency.
The driver of the Hyundai and police cruiser were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Volkswagen did not report any injuries. A 61-year-old male passenger and
48-year-old female passenger from the Hyundai were also transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police said excessive speed and impairment are being investigated as contributing factors to the crash. The use of seatbelts is also being investigated.
