Nakuru Family Who Lost 7 Members in Accident Shares Learning of Deaths, Asks for Kenyans' Help

  • A family from Naivasha in Nakuru county has shared their pain of losing six family members and a neighbour's child in a terrible accident as they were leaving their uncle's memorial

Nakuru: A family in Nakuru county has sadly shared that they learnt of the death of their seven kin while they were planning for the burial of a member.

What happened to the 7 family members in Naivasha?

The horrible accident happened along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu Road on Sunday, March 30, as the victims were returning home after attending an uncle's memorial service.

The family members were speaking during the burial service of another kin, Rev Kahure and were not even done with mourning his death, when the other seven died.

Now they are mourning a total of seven family members and a neighbour's child; such heartbreaking news can bring any family to its knees with sorrow.

"We heard the news about the accident at 9pm and we rushed to the Naivasha Hospital where we received the sad news that five members of our family had lost their lives and there were two surviviors ," said George Kahure, a family member.
"They were transferred to Nakuru Level 5 Hospital but we have lost the two kids," he added.

What is Nakuru family's plea to government?

The family was speaking at the funeral of another kin, reverent Kahure, who died recently.

Granted, there is a monumental task ahead for the family, as they have to lay six people to rest only days after they buried another; they will need a huge amount of money.

The family is now calling upon the government and other Kenyans of goodwill to help them raise the money.

"I'm pleading with the government of Kenya to hold this family as it is a young family and we will be very grateful.We cannot bring them back to life it is so painful and we need all the help we can get," said Samuel Kahure.

After learning of the death of their loved ones, friends and relatives gathered at the Naivasha mortuary to identify the bodies.

Alice Wangui, a family member, tearfully expressed the burden that had come with losing such a large part of the family, adding that the brothers who perished were the breadwinners for the entire family.
