Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), an autonomous body under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, dedicated to research in astronomy, astrophysics, and allied sciences & technology; Koramangala, Bengaluru (560034), has notified the selection of a Project Engineer I (Mechanical) through walk-in interview.
Job Description: Project Engineer I (Mechanical) will be a part of the instrument design and development team that handles design, fabrication, calibration, and testing for ground and space-based astronomy experiments.

The tenure of appointment on a contract basis is initially for a period of one year and extendable annually subject to the requirements of the institute/project and satisfactory performance of the candidate assessed annually or co-terminus with completion of the project, whichever is earlier. Place of posting will be IIA, Bengaluru, with a consolidated remuneration of Rs. 75,000/- per month.
Essential Education Qualifications: Applicant should hold a full-time M.E./M.Tech. degree in Mechanical specialization in Design/Manufacturing with 60% marks in the aggregate or equivalent grade from a recognized University institution under UGC, Centralor State Governments or Full-time B.E./B.Tech. degree in Mechanical with 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade from the recognized University institution under UGC or Central or State Governments
Essential Experience: (i) Full-time Postgraduate degree candidates, should have one year of experience in a reputed industry or research organisation after postgraduate. Full time B.E/B.Tech degree candidates, should have three years of experience in a reputed industry/Research Organization after Graduation. (ii) Experience in designing opto mechanical systems of astronomical instruments for space applications. Hands on experience in CAD and FE tools NX Nastran, Hyper works to generate solid and FE models, assemblies and opto-mechanical modeling and analysis to check and correct the optical aberrations. Expertise in FE analysis for dynamic load spectrums, Thermo elastic analysis, nonlinear and transient thermal dynamics and also experience in MATLAB
Desirable: Expertise in CAD packages like SolidWorks, Ansys, and Inventor.
Age: Age limit is 30 years. Age relaxation is permissible to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates and also physically handicapped candidates as notified by the Govt. of India from time to time.
The date for determining the upper age limit, qualifications, and experience shall be the date of the walk-in interview.

The walk-in interview will be held between 9 am and 5 pm on 23.04.2025 at the institute campus. Those interested in attending the interview must register their name between 9 am and 10 am on the date of the walk-in interview. Those coming beyond this time will not be entertained.
Candidates attending the walk-in interview should come with a duly filled-in prescribed application attached to the notification with a passport-size photograph pasted on the top of the application along with original certificates related to their qualification and experience and also one set of self-certified photo copies failing which the candidature will not be considered. Candidates are required to bring the documents as mentioned in the notification while appearing for the interview.
