Voters approve $100 million bond measure for Gardner Edgerton School District
Voters in the Gardner Edgerton School District approved a $100 million bond measure in a special mail-ballot election held Tuesday, according to unofficial results.The final tally showed 2,236 votes in favor and 1,581 against, for a total of 3,817 votes cast.The measure authorizes the district to issue general obligation bonds to finance a variety of projects. Plans include renovations to Sunflower Elementary School to convert it into an Early Childhood Center and construction of a new elementary school. Additional upgrades are proposed across all elementary and middle schools, such as safety and security enhancements, special education classroom improvements, and the addition of accessible playgrounds.Gardner Edgerton High School will see some expansions, including kitchen renovations and improvements to common areas. Other components of the bond include construction of a Transition Readiness and Independent Living Skills (TRAILS) addition, a new district service center, site improvements, and related project expenses.
