SARALAND, Ala. (WPMI) —
A Saraland High School senior has racked up a whopping $3,367,080 and counting in scholarship offers.
Thomas Savell is headed to the University of Alabama at Birmingham this fall with a huge weight lifted from his shoulders.
“I really just wanted to make sure I got school paid for, so I do not have to really work, I guess, during school. Funny enough, I still kind of have to, because some of the scholarships require that, but it's still a lot of pressure off,” he said.
Not only is Savell an honors student, but he also stays busy with a number of extracurricular activities.
“Thomas is a really fun kid to be around. He is really hard-working, dedicated, and even if he does not know the answer to something, he is going to work his hardest to figure it out,” said SHS teacher Chelsea Deese.
Deese says she wasn't surprised to see Savell’s scholarship offers surpass the three-million-dollar mark.
“He's a really hard-working kid, and he deserves all the scholarships he's gotten,” she said.
Savell will graduate from Saraland High School in May of this year. He hopes to one day become a dentist, and he applied for over two hundred scholarships to help achieve that goal.
“Just apply for as many scholarships as you can, because some people just don't even apply for scholarships and, like, the one person who has applied, gets it,” said Savell.
Savell was accepted into forty-three colleges and universities.
At UAB, he will study biomedical sciences with a minor in chemistry.
