Midwestern State University bringing a Military Education Center to campus
“We’re not just here to service our own students.”
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - Midwestern State University is working on bringing a permanent Military Education Center to its campus. The new facility will be located on the second floor of the Bridwell Activity Center.
The project aims to make college life easier for military members by helping them tackle financial aid issues and other common challenges.
“Rather than sending you all throughout campus to take care of two or three different things, which could turn into an all-day affair, or an entire afternoon, we want to cut it down to just a couple of hours at most,” said military and adult education manager Stephen Schutte.
The Military Education Center currently has a temporary office on the first floor of the building to assist military students.
Schutte said the collaboration between MSU and Sheppard Air Force Base will be a positive endeavor for the community.
“Relationships are everything and so a strong relationship between Sheppard and Midwestern State University is a strong relationship for Wichita Falls. Really at the end of the day, we’re not just here to service our own students, but we’re also here to be community members,” Schutte said.
The center will also provide several scholarships to help service members and their families earn degrees. MSU officials say they aim to have the facility open by next fall.
