The 2025 Grand National Festival gets underway today - with Constitution Hill and Lossiemouth going head-to-head in the William Hill Aintree Hurdle. The two-and-a-half-mile Grade One contest was won last year by Nicky Henderson’s Constitution Hill, who will this year be on a recovery mission after dramatically falling in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham last month.

It will be the second time the duo have locked horns, with Constitution Hill coming out on top during his brilliant comeback victory in the Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day. Meanwhile, a star-studded field of eight has assembled for the other Grade One on today's card, the Brooklands Golden Miller Chronograph Bowl.

In total there are seven races set to take place at Aintree today, with the action getting underway at 1.45pm. And below is a list of today's runners and riders, as well as a tip for each race.

8 Rubaud (FR) 7 11 7 Mr Brendan McManus Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden

9 The Kalooki Kid 7 11 7 Eddie Melville & Kenny Haughey Nicky Richards Danny McMenamin

Tip: Writing for Paddy Power, former Grand National winner Ruby Walsh said: "Aintree was always the plan for Impaire Et Passe’s owners but I’m not sure he’s in the right race! He’s running over 2m 4f for the first time with cheekpieces on as well. That should help but he has a bit of ground to make up with Croke Park. He’s having a terrific season and he arguably brings better form to the table than Impaire Et Passe. Jango Baie was a good winner of the Arkle Chase at Cheltenham and he looks like he wants further. I was slow to warm to Croke Park but I’m keen now. His style of running will suit Aintree and he’s a really good jumper."

Latest odds: 5-2 Jango Baie, 11-4 Impaire Et Passe, 10-3 Croke Park, 5-1 Gidleigh Park, 12-1 Rubaud, 16-1 The Kalooki Kid, 20-1 Boombawn, 25-1 Mark Of Gold, 100-1 Fascile Mode.

Tip: Speaking to Betfair, Kevin Blake believes: "The Boodles Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle (14:20) was turned on its head at the declaration stage with the top three in the market Lulamba, Hello Neighbour and Lady Vega Allen all failing to appear in the final field. Remarkably, only two of those that ran in the 17-runner Triumph Hurdle line up here and neither of them finished in the first 10 home.

"In amongst a depleted field, the Joseph O'Brien-trained Puturhandstogether might well be able to make a winning transition to Grade 1 company.

"The son of Caravaggio improved out of all recognition when encountering a sounder surface in the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, winning with a great amount of ease by six lengths. The handicapper had his say by whopping him up no less than 17lb, which must be close to a record rise for the winner of a handicap at the Cheltenham Festival.

"Mind, when one watches back the closing stages, it is easy to see where that strength of view comes from. The ground will be in his favour once again and he finds himself as the highest-rated runner in this field off his revised rating.

"The hope is that the pace will be solid, as they went hard in the Fred Winter, yet Puturhandstogether was still plenty strong in cover, so the faster the gallop the easier it will make Mark Walsh's job to settle him. He looks to have a very good chance."

Latest odds: 3-1 Live Conti, 9-2 Puturhandstogether, 5-1 Naturally Nimble, 7-1 Filibustering, 10-1 Wendrock), Mambonumberfive, 12-1 Willy De Houelle, Murcia, 14-1 Gibbs Island, 25-1 Aviemore, Give It To Me Oj, 33-1 Terrorise, Coconut Grove.

7 Stage Star (IRE) 9 11 10 Owners Group 044 Paul Nicholls Harry Cobden

8 The Real Whacker (IRE) ts 9 11 10 Neville, Mann, Duffus, Dennis-Price Patrick Neville Brian Hughes

Tip: The ECHO's Chris Wright tips Grey Dawning to come out on top, saying: "Grey Dawning can win the Grade One Brooklands Golden Miller Chronograph Bowl Chase (GBB Race) (2.55pm). Skelton's eight-year-old won a Grade One Novices' Chase at last year's Cheltenham Festival and was third in his bid to follow-up at Aintree. This season he was looked upon as a potential Cheltenham Gold Cup contender but having been beaten in a gruelling Grade One Betfair Chase by Grand National hopeful Royale Pagaille at Haydock Park on his seasonal return, he was also pulled up in the King George VI Chase at Kempton.

"Skelton decided to bypass the Gold Cup and stay fresh for Aintree following a morale-boosting victory in the Premier Chase at Kelso at the start of last month. That looks a smart move and Grey Dawning can land another Grade One victory ahead of chiefly the Jimmy Mangan-trained Spillane's Tower and Paul Nicholls' Stage Star – who are two others who have been kept fresh for a crack at the Bowl."

Latest odds: 5-2 Grey Dawning, 11-4 Spillane's Tower, 5-1 Ahoy Senor, 6-1 Gaelic Warrior, 7-1 Stage Star, 12-1 Embassy Gardens, 16-1 Djelo, 20-1 The Real Whacker.

6 Take No Chances (IRE) 7 11 3 Mr Garry Wilson Dan Skelton Harry Skelton

7 Wodhooh (FR) 5 11 3 The Sundowners Partnership Gordon Elliott Ireland Danny Gilligan

Tip: The ECHO's Chris Wright is backing the favourite. He said: "Constitution Hill can bounce back and regain his crown in the William Hill Aintree Hurdle (GBB Race) (3.30pm) on day one of the 2025 Randox Grand National Festival at Aintree Racecourse.

"Nicky Henderson's star has something to prove but may be able to land a second victory in the Grade One feature on the opening day of the Grand National meeting. The eight-year-old, who won the Aintree Hurdle two years ago before injury ruled him of last spring's big Festivals, had looked to be back to his best in two victories this season at Kempton when winning a third straight Christmas Hurdle and at Prestbury Park on Festival Trials day at the end of January. But when bidding to regain his Unibet Champion Hurdle crown he won in 2023 he took a dramatic fall at last month’s Cheltenham Festival.

"Having been previously unbeaten in 10 starts over hurdles and being talked about as a racing great his injury absence and last month's mishap mean he is on a recovery mission of his lofty reputation. But on his day, and that has generally been whenever he heads to the racetrack, he has looked like one of the best hurdlers we've seen. And stepped up to 2m4f again and on the flat track at Aintree, he can prove it again and land a ninth Grade One victory.

"The Willie Mullins-trained Lossiemouth will certainly look to exploit any chinks in his armour. Mullins' six-year-old won a second Mares' Hurdle at Cheltenham last month, but had been beaten by Constitution Hill at Kempton. This longer trip suits her but it's hard to see her reversing the form if Constitution Hill stays on his feet. Constitution Hill can keep her at bay to triumph again."

Latest odds: 4-6 Constitution Hill, 7-4 Lossiemouth, 15-2 Wodhooh, 50-1 Take No Chances, Salver, 66-1 Break My Soul, 100-1 Tellherthename.
