Spring is the time for picnics, summer planning and tests. Fortunately, Florida libraries are stepping in to help shoulder the cost of bank-breaking test prep.
In partnership with The Children’s Trust, the Miami-Dade Public Library System is returning with their free Homework Help & Tutoring Program, offering free relief to hundreds of individuals countywide.
The library offers free help for Miami-Dade County K-12 students in reading, math and science from certified teachers.
The program offers online sessions from 5-8 p.m., on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and in-person from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., on Saturdays at 29 public library locations throughout the county.
During the 2023-24 school year, the program conducted over 40,000 online and in-person sessions combined. This year, The Children’s Trust donated $225,000 to the program to keep the momentum going.
“Affordable academic support is essential for high-need communities where parents and guardians are not always available to provide it themselves,” said The Children’s Trust President and CEO, James R. Haj. “The Children’s Trust and the Library are responding to this need by offering no-cost tutoring services to all students in the county, ensuring the academic success of all participants and their successful transition to adulthood.”
The free program officially resumed on January 13 after the break, giving students an option to begin preparing for the testing season.
