Colorado State University has announced its forecast for the 2025 hurricane season, and it expects another year of above-average storms.

Researchers from CSU predict 17 named storms, nine hurricanes, and four major hurricanes for the Atlantic basin.

CSU attributes the above-average forecast to current La Niña conditions and is likely to transition to ENSO-neutral conditions in the next few months.

However, there remains considerable uncertainty as to what the phase of ENSO will be this summer and fall.

Sea surface temperatures across the eastern and central Atlantic are generally warmer than usual but not as warm as last year.

Researchers anticipate an above-average probability of major hurricanes landing along the continental United States coastline and in the Caribbean.
