Syracuse, N.Y. -- Eddie Lampkin has entered the transfer portal.
The former Syracuse basketball big man is attempting to get a waiver from the NCAA for his freshman season, when he played 10 games at TCU, said a source with understanding of the situation.
College basketball players who played games that year -- 2020-21 -- were granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA, the reasoning being they had to play an entire season in empty gyms.
Lampkin has played five seasons of college basketball and would appear to be out of eligibility. But he could attempt to appeal his freshman season for medical or other reasons to regain a full fifth year.
Lampkin could not be reached by Syracuse.com on Saturday night.
He has played a total of 137 college basketball games over five seasons. He spent three years at TCU, one year at Colorado and one year at Syracuse.
At SU this season, he averaged 11.5 points and 9.6 rebounds.
With the advent of NIL, several players who appear to be out of eligibility are entering the portal and will then try to sort it out with the NCAA.
