Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB); Biotech Park, Electronics City Phase I, Bengaluru 560 100; has invited applications for admission to (i) MSc in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and (ii) MSc in Big Data Biology programs for academic session 2025-27.
MSc programme in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary, dual specialization degree programme that builds competence in both Biotechnology and Computational Biology/ Bioinformatics. The Program provides hands on laboratory training in Experimental & Computational Biology and Computer programming and Research Projects in the frontier areas of Biotechnology and Computational sciences. The programme incorporates Genetic engineering, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Fermentation, and downstream processing omics, next gen sequencing, big data analysis and so on during study.

The general objective of the MSc programme in ‘Big Data Biology’ is to introduce students to, and train them in, the highly interdisciplinary areas at the interface of Biology, Mathematics, Computing, Data Science and Information technology to create a future generation of biologists. There is strong focus to develop novel AI/ML algorithms to address real world life science challenges and emphasis on algorithmic thinking, programming principles and mathematical foundations to develop computational expertise to analyse life science and health care data. The students trained through this programme will help address the need for highly skilled manpower in this area and produce a new generation of computational biologists capable of exploring genomic information in medicine, analysing medical images using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and employing these techniques in diverse areas such as healthcare diagnostics and therapy.
