Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Dr. V.K.R.V. Rao Road, Nagarabhavi, Bengaluru – 560072, a premier inter-disciplinary research institutions undertaking social science research in India, has invited applications for Internship in Social Sciences for 2025.
The core objective of the internship programme of ISEC is to make young students at the postgraduate level undergo internship in various social science disciplines to understand nuances of, and participate in the inter-disciplinary, social science research. This is achieved through: (i) Providing a platform for understanding the rigour in the research on social science disciplines and enhancing the understanding towards analysing and addressing the social problems through hands-on training (ii) Facilitate, instruct and orient the students in developing the research questions either for further studies or for independent research activity (iii) Interaction with faculty, researchers and PhD scholars of nine different academic centres of ISEC (iv) First hand exposure in the arena of research and policy interplay and understand how research and policy complement and/or contradict with each other.

The Program will be held in the offline mode. Internship demands a full-time commitment for two months between May and August 2025. There will, however, be sufficient flexibility regarding the timing of the programme within these four month’s period. The students will be required to assist and discuss with the concerned faculty.
Stipend: The selected interns will be paid a stipend of Rs. 5000/- per month for two months, based on diligence and deliverables. Free accommodation will be provided at ISEC hostels/Guest houses/Quarters only to the selected interns coming from outside Bangalore city. Travel reimbursement (Train non-AC sleeper class) will also be provided to the selected interns coming from outside Bengaluru city.
Essential qualifications: Applicant should be pursuing Post-graduation in Social sciences and between 2nd and 3rd semesters of Masters programme.
Areas for Research include (i) Agricultural Economics, Agriculture and allied sectors, Rural Development, Agricultural marketing and Agri-Business management, Agriculture Finance, Impact of climate changes on Agriculture, Agricultural Production, Marketing, Meta-Analysis, Price Analysis, Growth Analysis, AI and ML in Agriculture (ii) Environmental economics, development economics, natural & environmental resource management and sustainable development goals, environmental valuation, Applied Econometrics, labour market, Trade, Industrial Economics (iii) Work, employment, unemployment, labour market discrimination, migration, regional development linking with sustainable development goals, education and labour, education particularly for tribal and marginalized communities (iv) Population and health, sociology of illness, gender and health with a focus on infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, etc. (v) Urban studies, Gender studies, Climate Change, Governance, Urban Governance, Poverty, Informality, Gender and the City, Environmental Governance (vi) Decentralisation and development, women leadership and local government finances.
