Free cancer screenings for Marion County veterans
The Vet Resource Center announces that over 130 Marion County Veterans have already been screened for cancers caused by exposure to toxic substances while serving in the armed forces. Two have tested positive for cancer and are now receiving lifesaving treatments.
Veteran cancers have been on the rise since the end of the Vietnam War and Gulf Wars including post 9/11 War on Terror. Toxic burn pits, burning oil wells and Agent Orange have had a devastating effect on veterans, and thousands have died from undiagnosed cancers. About 70 percent of cancer deaths are from cancers not generally screened for today.
Now the Vet Resource Center in Ocala is offering free multi-cancer detection tests on site at their location at the Veterans Helping Veterans facility on East Silver Springs Blvd in Ocala.
Based on available funding, Marion County veterans who served in Vietnam and the Gulf Wars with “boots on the ground” are eligible for the screenings. Testing is quick and easy. These tests can help detect more than 50 types of cancer.
Veterans who might be affected are urged to call 352-433-2320 to make a free screening appointment.
