BANGKOK, Thailand – His Majesty the King has posthumously awarded royal decorations to three individuals who lost their lives while rescuing students from a school bus fire during a field trip in Pathum Thani province last year. The tragic incident occurred on October 1, 2024, when the vehicle caught fire and was quickly engulfed in flames. The announcement was published in the Royal Thai Government Gazette on April 8, 2025.

The honorees included two teachers and a student intern from Wat Khao Phraya Sangkaram School in Uthai Thani province. Pimthong Sombat and Kanokwan Sripong, both government educators, were awarded the Order of the White Elephant, Commander (Third Class). Sarinya Homkesorn, a student teacher in training, was awarded the Order of the Direkgunabhorn, Companion (Fourth Class), in recognition of her bravery.

The decorations were granted with effect from March 20, 2025, and officially announced on March 24, honoring their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to the safety of the children in their care.

All three were affiliated with Wat Khao Phraya Sangkaram School, which falls under the Uthai Thani Primary Educational Service Area Office 2 and the Office of the Basic Education Commission. Their actions have been met with sorrow and deep admiration from the local community and beyond.

These royal decorations serve as a solemn tribute to their heroism and reflect the nation’s profound gratitude. Their sacrifice remains a powerful reminder of the strength of duty and compassion in moments of crisis. (NNT)
