Michelle Jewett is an acrylic, mixed media, and fluid acrylics artist. For her, painting is a continuous journey of experimentation, exploration, and discovery. She is captivated by organic shapes, movement, and vibrant color. “I paint for the next beautiful surprise. I paint for the pure joy of what I can create,” she says.
Michelle’s artistic journey began in Seattle when she signed up for an acrylic painting class after work. What started as a stress-reliever quickly became a passionate pursuit. After relocating to Nevada County, she transitioned to painting large-scale impressionistic landscapes and mixed media abstracts.
Drawn to the expressive nature of abstracts, Michelle developed a fascination with fluid acrylic art. Her engineering background adds a layer of curiosity and precision to her work. Fluid acrylics, she explains, are a unique blend of chemistry, physics, design composition, and color. By applying acrylic paints and pigments in their fluid form, she captures movement and energy in her creations.
“The paints in my fluid acrylics are applied with intention. I have a vision for my design and choose colors that inspire me. Yet, the beauty of this medium lies in its unpredictability. While I guide the paint, the final result often holds delightful surprises that keep me intrigued.” Inspired by nature’s landscapes, flowing water, coastlines, and vibrant flora, Michelle’s fluid acrylic paintings evoke a sense of wonder. Each piece invites viewers to explore and interpret the imagery through their own perspective. What will you see?
Join Michelle at Art Works Gallery on Saturday, April 12, from 1 pm to 3pm for an engaging demonstration where she will share insights into her fluid acrylic art process. Experience firsthand how she brings her designs to life on a small scale and discover the joy of creative exploration.
