Maurine Virginia Kitchens

Maurine Virginia Kitchens, 89, of Ellisville passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. Born on Aug. 27, 1935, in Jones County, she grew up in the Sweetwater community.

Maurine was a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and participated in the church choir for many years. Her faith and church family were central to her life. Professionally, she worked as a beautician in Heidelberg, Laurel and Ellisville for many years, touching the lives of many in her community.

She was a cancer survivor, having bravely battled the disease from 1981 to 2025. 

Maurine was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bobby J. Kitchens; her father Claude Davis; her mother Ethel Jones Davis; and her sister Frances Cheeks.

She is survived by her son Joey Kitchens and his wife Jo Anne; her daughter Cindy Kitchens; her grandchildren Ashley Conner and her husband Will, Randy Kitchens, Katie Huffman and her husband Marcus, and Damon Berthold; her brothers A. J. Davis and Samual Davis and his wife Pat; her great-grandchildren Harper Conner, Tatum Conner, Chloe Huffman, Madison Huffman, Kinsley Huffman and Bryson Huffman; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, April 14, from 9:30-11 a.m. at Ellisville Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the same location, with burial at New Hope Baptist Church in Ellisville. Brother T.J. Stroo will officiate the services. Arrangements are under the care of Ellisville Funeral Home.
