The University of Abuja has approved the promotion of 45 academic staff to professorial ranks, marking a significant stride in its commitment to academic excellence and staff development.
Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Patricia Manko Lar, made the announcement during the institution’s 188th Regular Senate meeting at the University’s Main Campus in Abuja on Tuesday.
Of the 45 promoted academics, 20 were elevated to full professors while 25 others advanced to the rank of Associate Professor, the university said on its official Facebook page.
The promotion exercise cuts across diverse faculties including Geography and Atmospheric Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Social Sciences, Engineering, Management Sciences, Education, Sciences, Medicine, and the Arts.
According to Lar, the promotion received the nod of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the 11th Governing Council, Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, pending formal ratification by the fully constituted Council.
“This is a well-deserved recognition of your dedication, resilience, and hard work,” she said, congratulating the newly promoted academics. “Your promotions reflect not only individual achievement but also the University’s dedication to nurturing scholarly excellence.”
The new Professors include Dr Ishaya Sunday- Environmental Resource Planning; Dr Gabriel Kehinde Omeiza- Food Safety and Veterinary Public Health; Dr Simon Azubuike Ubah- Theriogenology; Dr Maria Aladi Apochi- Science Education – Biology; and Dr Akinola David Babatunde- Social Studies Education.
Others are Dr Grace Simadi Olowonefa- Educational Administration and Planning; Dr Comfort Adetutu Olanrewaju- Zoology, Public Health, Parasitology; Dr Kolawole Sunday Adebayo- Applied Chemistry; Dr Ogedengbe John Onimisi- Human Physiology; and Dr Kamoru Adio Salami- Process Intensification and Reaction Engineering.
Additional names on the professorial list include Dr Samson Adeyinka Adeniji and Dr Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim- both in International Relations; Dr Saleh Abubakar Sadiq- Finance; Dr Emmanuel Ademola Anigilaje- Paediatrics, Nephrology; Dr Musa Adeyemi Olaofe- Islamic History and Ethics; Dr Richard Onalo- Cardiology; Dr Zubairul Islam- Geographic Information Systems/Remote Sensing; Dr Andrew Donatus Abue- Anatomy, Physical Anthropology; Dr Fatima Kyari- Ophthalmology; and Dr Ugheoke Benjamin Iyenagbe- Production/Industrial Engineering.
Lar assured that the university would continue to support academic advancement, promising that deserving staff will receive their due recognition without delay.
