RIT Men's Head Coach Wayne Wilson Announces Retirement

Wilson finishes career as the winningest coach in RIT program history

April 9, 2025 - RIT men's ice hockey head coach Wayne Wilson has announced his retirement. Wilson concludes his career as the winningest coach in RIT history.

Wilson took over as head coach at RIT for the 1999-00 season when the Tigers were apart of the ECAC West. RIT then played as an independent for the 2005-06 season before joining Atlantic Hockey in 2006-07. In his 26 seasons behind the bench in Rochester, Wilson posted an overall record of 471-337-82. He finishes his career 33rd in NCAA Men's Ice Hockey victories.

Wilson guided RIT to four Atlantic Hockey Championships and four NCAA Division I Tournament appearances (2009-10, 2014-15, 2015-16, and 2023-24). In 2010, he led the Tigers on a historic run to the Frozen Four in RIT's fifth year at the Division-I level.

Under Wilson's watch, RIT totaled more conference (273) and overall (349) wins than any other current AHA team. During his tenure, Wilson mentored 13 All-Americans, 36 Atlantic Hockey All-Conference players totaling 55 honors, 19 major Atlantic Hockey award winners, and three Atlantic Hockey Players of the Year.
