Director of Communications in the Office of the President, Myk Berewa, says the recent visit of Nigerian TikTok influencer Amadou Elizabeth Aminata, known as “Jarvis” or “Jadrolita,” is part of a new effort to open doors for young Sierra Leonean content creators.
Speaking in an interview, Berewa said the idea behind the tour is not just about bringing in a popular figure but giving Sierra Leonean youth the chance to see what is possible through social media if used well.
“She’s not just a TikToker,” Berewa said. “Jarvis has something that we want our children to gravitate to.”
Jarvis is known for her AI-style videos and creative use of technology on TikTok. According to Berewa, she used her content creation skills to pay her school and college fees after facing backlash at the beginning of her journey. He says her story is what the government wants local students to hear that success on social media is possible without coming from a rich background.
The visit was part of a Youth Empowerment School Tour that ended with a masterclass on content creation. Berewa said the goal is to identify Sierra Leonean talents who could one day work with Jarvis and enter the much larger Nigerian entertainment market.
“It starts with willingness,” he said. “Are people willing to come and learn?”
He explained that the only part designed by the government is the masterclass, while Gbamgbaode, who brought Jarvis in, wanted to tour around with her and let her return afterward.
Berewa pointed out that many of the things that show up when you search “Sierra Leone TikTok” are not suitable for young viewers, and with TikTok allowing users from age 13, it’s now the government’s responsibility to guide and support youth.
“We want them to know that social media can be used to make money and get an education,” he said.
He also responded to criticism from some entertainers in Sierra Leone, saying the issue is often about mindset. “The mindset of Sierra Leoneans is, when I’m not part of something then it is not good,” Berewa said.
1 billion don go boffin
What did we learn now from Jarvis
Jarvis coming to Sierra Leone is a total waste of money, if you want to change the mindset of Sierra Leonean Tik Tokers why don’t you call for a master class symposium.
If I may ask what has Jarvis taught Sierra Leonean Tik Tokers?
Please just empower our Tik Tokers everything is going to be ok
Nice explanation
