Péter Magyar: If Tisza wins, Hungary will return to being a reliable NATO ally and full EU member
Péter Magyar said that over 1.1 million people had answered the Tisza Party’s questions in its “Voice of the Nation” initiative, and the answers “define a would-be Tisza government’s main tasks.”

If Tisza wins power, its government will build a “humane” Hungary, a country “again to be a proud and reliable NATO ally and a European Union member with full rights”, Magyar said.
Tisza’s government will “bring home the community funds frozen over the government’s corruption and create a basis for economic and social recovery,” he added. Tisza would also maximise the prime minister’s term at any time to two cycles, not more than eight years, while the prime minister’s salary would be “reduced to 2.5 million forints (EUR 6,100) from the over 7 million today” and halve the current pay for public officials, Magyar said.
Magyar also pledged restoring the powers of local governments and making the tax system “more humane”, but added that the latter subject would require further consultations with voters. The next government, if formed by Tisza, will restore the popular “kata” form of taxation for the smallest businesses and levy an extra tax on privately held assets worth over 5 billion forints, Magyar said.
Tisza would reduce the VAT on health food to 5 percent and to nil on medicines, as well as introduce a SZÉP card for pensioners, allowing for purchasing food and health services worth 200,000 forints a year, he said.
Péter Magyar said the use of budget funds for private health care would be prohibited by law, and at least an additional 500 billion forints would be spent on the development of the state health care system annually. Magyar said Tisza’s government would recover national assets and use them for education, health services, and rural development.
Concerning Ukraine’s possible EU accession, Magyar said the survey did not provide a clear indication “as to the majority of Hungarians”, adding that a Tisza government would hold a binding referendum “which will determine the position it will represent.”
