This year’s event will take place on Thursday, April 24 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. (Doors open at 11:00 a.m.) This year’s theme is “Lead, Serve, Inspire: Shaping Tomorrow Today,” (This theme speaks directly to the heart of the Dearborn YMCA’s purpose—empowering individuals and strengthening communities through leadership, service, and mentorship.)

The purpose of the event is to gather community leaders, advocates, and change makers to promote awareness of the Y’s impact, celebrate our mission, and inspire continued progress.

What makes the Dearborn YMCA unique compared to other YMCAs across the country?

YMCA The Dearborn YMCA has been proudly serving the community since 1933. We are the only YMCA remaining in the city of Mobile and one of three remaining heritage YMCAs in the country that were originally established to provide essential services to minorities during a time when access was limited.

What programs are currently in highest demand and how is the Y meeting that need?

Several of our programs are in high demand, particularly those supporting workforce development and family well-being. Our Pathway to Employment Program assists individuals aged 17-24 in earning their GED or alternative diploma, providing work readiness training to facilitate workforce entry or further education. Recognizing that reliable childcare is crucial for working parents, our Before & After-School Academy offers a safe environment with physical activities and study time for children. Additionally, our Summer Camp Program provides enriching experiences to help children develop lifelong skills and self-confidence. For our senior community, the Senior Activities for Independent Living (SAIL) Program delivers nutritious meals, engaging activities, and wellness resources to keep seniors active and connected. Collectively, these programs embody our commitment to supporting individuals and families across all life stages.

How can the community get more involved in shaping the future of the Dearborn Y?

The community can get involved by joining, volunteering, advocating, and giving. By joining the Y, they support programs that strengthen families and individuals. By volunteering, they share their time and talents to make a direct impact.
