Winona State University says federal authorities revoked the visa for one of its recent international graduates.

WINONA, Minn. (WXOW) -- Winona State University says federal authorities revoked the visa for one of its recent international graduates.
According to a statement from WSU, the person was a part of the Optional Practical Training (OPT) in a different part of the country.
That's a work authorization that lets international students gain practical experience in their field of study in the U.S. for one to three years.
Winona State has notified that individual of the change in their status and says they are working with any current students who have questions or concerns.
The name of the student, where they are from, and when they need to leave the country by was not provided.
Winona State University full statement:
"During a routine review of SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) records, Winona State University learned that an international alumnus, on Optional Practical Training (OPT) in a different part of the country, had their visa revoked by federal authorities.
OPT is a work authorization that allows international students in F-1 status to gain practical experience in their field of study in the United States. OPT is for a limited period of time, typically 1 to 3 years depending on field of study. More information is available on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.
The individual has been notified of the change in their status by the university, and Winona State is working with any current students who have questions or concerns."
