A new £4 million super-school is “riddled” with structural problems, it can been revealed.

Leaks, faulty automatic doors and sensory lights are among a string of issues at Invergarven’s marquee campus in Girvan.

The school’s swimming pool has also not been used since the ribbon was cut back in August.

Council chiefs, who hailed the building as a huge boost for education, admit they have hit “snagging issues”.

One senior source said: “The place was leaking like a sieve.

“You expect the odd snag with any new building but this is far more than that.

“It seems like the pressure was on to move in on time and clearly things haven’t been ready.

“To be fair the place has been riddled with problems since day one.”

The Post understands that a squad of up eight workers have been sent in to fix ongoing problems.

And staff have still to be trained in using the hydrotherapy pool some five months after the school’s opening.

Girvan councillor, Iain Fitzsimmons, said: “The school is going to be a great facility for this area.

“The staff are also incredibly hard working and deserve a lot of praise.

“I am assured that a number of snagging issues are in the process of being fixed and in the pool will be in use by February.”

A council spokesman added: “Since the school opened we’ve received very positive feedback from staff, children, parents and the community on a fantastic new facility that’s helping to transform education for children and young people.

“The hydrotherapy pool is in full working order and staff are currently being trained to make the best use of this central new feature.

“Our contract also provides for snagging issues to be dealt with as and when required.”
