Angola and Gabon assess cooperation and regional security

Luanda, ANGOLA, February 15 - Angola's President, João Lourenço, and his Gabonese counterpart Ali Bongo Ondimba, Thursday in Luanda discussed the cooperation between the two countries and security in Central Africa.,

The statesmen met in the framework of the visit of some hours that Ali Bongo Ondimba made to Angola.

Ali Bongo is also the Chairperson of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), of which Angola is a member.

Regarding the visit of Ali Bongo, the director for Africa and Middle East of the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Joaquim do Espírito Santo, said that economic cooperation between the two countries was stagnant and below the level of political relations.

He explained that there have been agreements between the two states in 1979 on oil, education, agriculture and fisheries, but they need to be revised and adapted to the current situation.

It accepts the possibility of relaunching the joint committee, promoting constructive cooperation and the well-being of the population.

He announced that the Gabonese capital, Libreville, will host next March the summit of the Council of Peace and Security of Central Africa that will evaluate regional stability, defense, terrorism, mercenarism, among other evils.
