Leeling Wins Three Golds, Ahrens Breaks 100M Hurdle Record at Don Bader Invite

LEXINGTON--Sidney's Red Raider Track & Field teams traveling to Lexington on April 19 to compete at the annual Don Bader Invitational, and it was another stellar day for the Lady Raiders, with a Sidney High School record being broken by senior Chloe Ahrens.

For the boys, outstanding performances were all around, with senior Isak Doty placing second in the both the 100 Meters and 200 Meters. Junior Landon Riddle placed fourth in both events. Riddle also placed second in the Long Jump and senior Patrick McCartney placed third in the 300 Meter Hurdles.

The Lady Raiders did very well at the highly-competitive meet, led by three golds by senior Karsyn Leeling. The University of Nebraska commit won the Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump. Senior Chloe Ahrens had an outstanding performance in the 100 Meter Hurdles, breaking her own Sidney High School record of 14.68 with a blazing time of 14.60. Senior Payton Schrotberger placed second in the 100 Meters and freshman Melody Sanchez placed third in the 200 Meters. Senior Talissa Tanquary took gold in the 800 Meters and placed third in the 400 Meters. The 4x800 Meter Relay team of Taylor Sprenger, Jordynn Schnell, Talissa Tanquary and Katie Dowse won the event, beating second-place Elm Creek by more than 15 seconds. Freshman Rylan Misegadis placed second in the High Jump.

The Red Raider teams have had a strong season so far, and entered a busy week, competing in the Best in the West meet in Scottsbluff on Tuesday and then returning to Scottsbluff on Friday for Conference Meet. Both boys and girls squads have developed a reputation for being strong in the sprints, and the Lady Raiders have been dominant in sprints, jumps and relays. The Red Raider teams are both poised for outstanding final results and success in the District Meets as the season winds down.
